Simplified model. Real interstellar travel also depends on relativity, fuel mass, heat limits, shielding, and mission profile.
How we calculate
We estimate kinetic energy using ship mass and travel speed, then adjust it by propulsion efficiency and trip type.
- Speed: percentage of light speed
- Energy: 0.5 × mass × velocity² ÷ efficiency
- Round trip: doubles the estimated energy
- Travel time: distance ÷ speed
